Port Change in Outgoing Email SMTP Setting (IMPORTANT!)
- Posted by Namsahaz Team on January 12th, 2008 filed in Announcement
We’ve received notification from Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) (TM’s notice: http://www.namsahaz.com/files/TM-Notice.doc) that there has been spamming activities conducted by a small group of TM users which have affected many users IP being blacklisted by anti-spams organization. The spamming activities within TM’s Internet Protocol (IP) network have caused many TM users and customers unable to send emails from their mail server to companies which using the databases from the anti-spam organizations.
In order to resolve this issue, TM will block OUTBOUND Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) traffic or port 25 for all outgoing e-mails from the dynamic IP addresses effective from 15 January 2008. Only Outbound SMTP traffic from smtp.streamyx.com and smtp.tm.net.my will be permitted. According to TM, this will be done in phases, starting from Klang Valley area and it will be implemented nationwide progressively.
With this action taken by TM, customers who use Streamyx services with dynamic IP address and who have their own mail server (Outlook Express, Eudora, Microsoft Outlook, etc) will not be able to send out-going emails.
To solve this problem, Namsahaz will change our server outgoing port from 25 to 26. Kindly change your SMTP port in with reference to the steps provided below:
1. Open MS Outlook and click on Tools > Email Accounts
2. Select View existing email accounts and Next
3. Double click on the email account and click on the More Settings button
4. Select the Advanced tab and you will see the SMTP port is set to 25 by default.
5. Change it to 26 and restart the Outlook.
